BEIRUT, Nov. 23 -- The 19th Chinese peacekeeping construction engineer contingent and medical contingent to Lebanon successfully passed their first United Nations (UN) equipment inspection since their deployment to the mission areas.

An inspection team consisting of officials from nine departments of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came to the Chinese peacekeeping construction engineer contingent on November 20. They carried out inspection on 11 categories of main equipment including combat equipment, weaponry and medical facilities, and 16 categories of self-sustaining equipment including catering, communications, and field defense fortifications. They also conducted a comprehensive assessment of the logistic support, material reserves, and epidemic prevention and control capabilities of the team during the mission period.

The officials of the UN inspection team praised Chinese peacekeepers' epidemic prevention and control work. The head of the UN inspection team congratulated the contingent for successfully passing the inspection in the summary briefing.

Before then, the UNIFIL inspection team had conducted an equipment inspection on the Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent on November 17, with a focus on medical facilities, vehicle equipment, communication networks, firefighting facilities, water and electricity supply in barracks, and logistics management. All equipment of the Chinese medical contingent complied with the standards set by the UN and successfully passed the inspection.

The19th Chinese peacekeeping troops to Lebanon, consisting of three contingents, were deployed in Lebanon since August this year. The multifunctional engineer contingent will receive the first UN equipment inspection in December.
