 By Yang Xin and Yang Di CHENGDU, Nov. 24 -- The China Satellite Navigation Conference (CSNC) 2020 kicked off in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province on November 23. This is the first large-scale satellite navigation exchange event held in China since the completion and commissioning of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3). Themed "GNSS (global navigation satellite system) Leads Global New Era," the three-day conference features summits, seminars, forums, exhibitions and science popularization activities. Renowned experts and scholars from home and abroad in satellite navigation and related fields will conduct in-depth discussions on the two themes of "science and technology" and "application and industrialization", with one of the focuses on the application of BDS in the trends of intelligent Internet of Everything. BDS-3 was officially completed on July 31, 2020. As China's first major space infrastructure providing public services to the world, BDS-3 has two functions, navigation and positioning, and data communication. It can provide seven types of services, including positioning, navigation and timing, global short message communication, regional short message communication, international search and rescue, satellite-based augmentation, ground-based augmentation, and precise point positioning. At present, BDS and its related products have been exported to more than 120 countries and regions, providing services to over 100 million users. Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the BDS, said that China would build a more extensive, integrated, and smarter national integrated positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) system by 2035. It will become a spatio-temporal information service infrastructure covering the sky, ground and sea, featuring unified benchmarks, high precision, increased security, high-intelligence level, high-flexibility, and high-efficiency.
